The Indiana Hoosiers are National Champs?!
I’m still rubbing my eyes, but the scoreboard doesn't lie: Curt Cignetti just took Indiana to a 16-0 season and a natty after a win over Miami at Hard Rock Stadium. If you had "Hoosiers Football Dynasty" on your 2026 bingo card, please send me the lottery numbers.
But, even though the confetti is still being swept up in South Florida and every couch in Bloomington is currently being guarded by the fire department, we are far from the "offseason." As a guy who keeps four screens running at all times, I can tell you the sports calendar is currently hitting like a walk-off grand slam. We’ve got the NFL Conference Championships looming and College Basketball conference play turning into an absolute bloodbath.
New England at Denver: The AFC Championship Nobody (Except Us) Saw Coming
While the CFB world is reeling from Indiana’s run, the NFL is serving up a throwback special this Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High. The Denver Broncos hosting the New England Patriots for a trip to the Super Bowl? It feels like 2015 all over again.
The Heartbreak: The biggest story in Denver isn't the win over Buffalo—it's the cost. Bo Nix is officially out for the season after fracturing his ankle late in that overtime thriller. Seeing him go down after the year he had is brutal; he was playing like a seasoned vet, not a second-year guy.
Next Man Up: Enter Jarrett Stidham. Sean Payton has been beating the drum that Stidham is a "starting-caliber" QB, and now he has to prove it against his former team. Stidham shredded the preseason (376 yards, 4 TDs), but he hasn't thrown a regular-season pass in two years. This is the ultimate "next man up" test as he takes the reins from the man who once upon a time took the reins from him as starting QB at Auburn.
The Fan Take: If my team is going to start a backup in the biggest game of the decade, I might as well earn some rewards while I stress-scroll. Check out how it pays to be a fan with Wunderfan.
SEC and Big 12 Basketball: The Real "January Madness"
If you think the drama is over because the pigskin is tucked away, you clearly haven't been watching the Big 12 or the SEC on the hardwood lately.
Texas vs. Kentucky at Rupp Arena This isn't just a game; it’s a heavyweight fight. With Texas and Kentucky both jockeying for seeding, Rupp is going to be deafening. Kentucky fans are some of the most loyal (and stressed) people on the planet, and frankly, they deserve a reward just for surviving the emotional rollercoaster of conference play.
Houston at Texas Tech: United Supermarkets Arena is a powderkeg and College GameDay is heading to Lubbock this Saturday for the Red Raiders vs. the Cougars. Texas Tech just took their first loss of the season, and Houston looks like they’re ready to cut down the nets in April.
The Wunderfan Take: Fans in Lubbock and Lexington are spending thousands on tickets, jerseys, and overpriced light beer this week. It’s wild that most apps just take your data and give nothing back. At Wunderfan, we actually think it should pay to be a fan. Whether you’re at the game or screaming at your TV, you should be getting something back for that loyalty.
